The 3 Biggest Challenges In Today’s Workplace and How to Resolve Them
March 20, 2012
In researching and gathering intelligence over the years I have found that there are three big challenges organizations face and they are:
#1- The more traditional an organization the more they tend to rely on letting past success to dictate future success.
#2- They do not see the urgency of people development and are not willing to put up the resources to help grow leaders and their teams
#3- There is a lack of focus on leveraging the current technologies available for competitive advantage
The solutions to these challenges lie in having outside eyes take a look at the organization. Having an outside expert to assess can provide confirmation of what is working and provide new ideas to move forward. Organizations that are thriving in today’s economy are doing the following to counter the above challenges:
#1- Forward thinking organizations are focusing on what can be done in the moment- in the present moment- what can be executed now? What idea can we implement now? They focus first on the moment then look to the future while integrating what has been learned from the past. One of the biggest detractors of innovation is lack of implementation in the moment of a great idea. Leaders who can ‘do’ daily help drive the organization to the next level of success.
#2- Many organizations are so focused on delivery that they lose sight of talent investment through training and development. In the above solution we talk about daily implementation as a strategy and yes this is needed however we must keep an eye on the future needs of the organization. By investing in continual coaching and development of leaders and their teams the organization is banking and preparing for fast implementation for future opportunities. Think of ongoing training and development as your competitive advantage secret.
#3- Too many companies are introducing technologies without focus on the potential psychological challenges of adapting to the technology for the people in the organization. Typically technology training is provided but there is little time spent on getting everyone’s buy in, excitement and reasons as to why the technology is ‘good’ for them to learn. Progressive companies leverage their existing technologies and strategically plan when to introduce new technology.
