Future Leadership Training- Point and Ask

February 20, 2012

The recent Trendwatching 2012 report focused on ‘point and buy’ technology as being the biggest trend in 2012. It is an emerging trend as retailers pick up the technology. E-Bay is working on an app that when you point your smart phone at an item E-Baby will automatically look for the item and match it for you.

Starbucks card app let’s you point your phone at the scanner and pay for your drinks. Amsterdam and Paris airports have made their signs multilingual when a visitor points their smartphone at the sign.

It got me to thinking about ‘point and know’ technology and how it could change the way leaders find information. A new leader may need to know about how to use a specific piece of equipment and all they would have to do is point their smartphone and instant instructions would pop up in video format.

A newer leader may not know how to give an effective performance review but they simply point their smartphone at an online performance review and receive instant access to tips on how to make the most of the review.

We are on the tipping point of point and ‘know’ or ‘buy’ technology – the applications are endless.
