Future of Work Skills – A List of The Top Ten
September 14, 2016
There is a shortage of people who have the future of work skills that are needed to be future of work ready.
A client recently said that he was struggling with the lack of critical thinking skills on his team.
I empathized with him and told him that this was a common challenge.
Over 82% of leaders surveyed state critical thinking skills as a top skill that is needed by all of their employees.
In the image in this post notice the shift in skills needed by companies in 2015 compared to the future workplace in 2020.
In the list for 2020, creativity has moved to the top compared to being number ten in 2015.
Emotional intelligence is on the list of skills needed for 2020 and was not on the list for 2015.
Why the change?
Rapid innovation in technology has disrupted the skill set status quo.
People now have to develop speedier and more accurate thinking. Everyone has to learn to be a ‘leader’ and to develop strong emotional intelligence.
In one of my online leadership programs there is a module on critical thinking in “Everyone Is a Leader”.
I encourage you to check it out along with the other programs I offer.
Right now take a few moments to do a ‘check in’ on your own level of development.
Take a look at the list and do your own ‘assessment’ for each item listed.
Rate yourself on a scale of one to ten with ten being high on how skilled you are.
Take the same list and assess your staff and team on their skill level.
Make a plan on how you are going to gain skill development for yourself and also for your team members.
Awareness is the first step towards making change. The next step is to provide the tools and resources to build the skills that will help teams be future ready.
